We need your help!
PCTC has been working hard to maintain our existing trails and to help build new ones. Right now the main thing limiting what we can get done is how quickly we can work! To help us keep up and to bring you new trails ASAP, we want to buy a mini excavator. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to make that happen! Read more below about what we’ve been doing and why this is such an important need for us!
We are having a fundraiser at Rising Silo Brewery at 6pm on October 13th. There will be raffles, a silent auction, maps of new trails, and a portion of beer sales will go to PCTC! If you can, please come by, or donate using the button below. Maybe most importantly, TELL YOUR FRIENDS! Learn more about this fundraising effort below.
Why a mini-excavator?
Mini-excavators are fantastic tools for building and maintaining trails. The long and the short is that we can do more work with fewer people. It isn’t the perfect tool for all situations: rest assured we will still hand-build trail! But for some sections of trail it is the best option. It’s also the only option when we repair drainages on double-track in the National Forest.

New Trails
We have helped design and build much of the new trails in Blacksburg. We built the Joe Pye and Skullcap re-routes at Pandapas. We designed, cleared the corridor, and finished most of Ida May, Turkey Trot, and Wilkes Wood at McDonald Hollow, with Eastern Trail Co cutting the bench. We designed and built Crosscut at McDonald Hollow entirely by hand.
Now on property two we are doing the same: designing and contributing to building. We are limited to how fast we can move, taking small groups of volunteers our 1-3 times a week, but we are at it every week. You can see our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates: @povertycreektrailscoalition
We will continue the same work on Brush Mountain Property 3!
It’s an exciting time for trails in Blacksburg: You can help make it all happen faster by donating!

Existing Trails
Keeping the trails you love in usable condition takes work! It rains a lot in Blacksburg and it takes work to keep the trails from washing off the mountain!
We have spend countless hours digging drains to get water off trails, cutting back brush, and clearing downed trees from trails throughout Pandapas and at McDonald Hollow.
Many portions of trails at Pandaps follow old logging or other roads. These old road beds are nearly impossible to work on without heavy equipment. We have been renting or borrowing mini excavators to perform this maintenance.
Finally, we maintain the trails at the Blacksburg Rotary Mountain Bike Park. A mini-excavator is a very helpful tool in maintaining these type of trails.
Having our own mini-excavator would be a game changer for our organization. Please help us out by donating!
